The impact of Social Media and Cannabis on Young Minds: A Dinner on the Future of Mental Health in the Age of AI

July 9 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
£95.00 – £120.00

A timely and thought-provoking evening on one of the most pressing challenges facing families, clinicians, educators and society today: how can we protect the mental health of younger generations growing up in an age of constant digital exposure, social media pressure and increasingly potent cannabis?

Set against the elegant backdrop of IDALIA at Pillar Hall, Kensington Olympia, we are honoured to welcome our Guest of Honour, Professor Andrea Cipriani of the University of Oxford, in conversation with our member Professor Diego Quattrone of King’s College London and the University of Palermo.

Together, these two leading minds promise a conversation that is as urgent as it is illuminating. They will explore how modern life is reshaping the emotional and psychological development of young people and young adults: from online comparison, digital overload and emerging technologies, to the often underestimated risks associated with cannabis use, particularly high-potency cannabis, and its relationship with mental health difficulties.

Spaces for this exclusive dinner are strictly limited, do not miss the opportunity to dine in style while hearing directly from two leading voices in the field.

Bookings close on 3 July.

About the Speakers

Professor Andrea Cipriani is Professor of Psychiatry and NIHR Research Professor at the University of Oxford, and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. A leading figure in evidence-based mental health, his work focuses on evaluating treatments for depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and on using data science and precision psychiatry to support more personalised clinical care.

He directs GALENOS – the Global Alliance for Living Evidence in Depression, Anxiety and Psychosis – an international initiative keeping mental health evidence continuously up to date. He is also Director of the NIHR Oxford Health Clinical Research Facility, Lead of the Oxford Precision Psychiatry Lab and Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Mental Health.

Professor Diego Quattrone is Senior Lecturer in Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry at King’s College London and holds the Chair in Psychiatry at the University of Palermo, where he leads the University Adult Psychiatry Service. He brings senior clinical leadership from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, including running the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.

His research is closely informed by frontline clinical work and focuses on cannabis, addiction, gene–environment interactions and psychosis epidemiology, with major international contributions to understanding high-potency cannabis as a preventable risk factor for severe mental illness.

The Setting: IDALIA at Pillar Hall

Tucked within the magnificent, Grade II-listed Pillar Hall at Kensington Olympia, Idalia is a grand yet intimate dining room of lush greenery, warm lighting and a striking marble bar, serving modern British dishes from an all-female-led kitchen alongside a wine list that champions the best of English vineyards. Glamorous, characterful, and already one of the most talked-about tables in London — the perfect setting for a night that mixes serious science with serious style.
